The Interactive Notebook: Assignment #1
- Explain the difference between what you thought rhetoric meant before you started reading this book, and what you now know it to mean.
- Find a picture on the Internet of a map that illustrates where rhetoric was first studied. Paste it on the left side of the page.
- Do the same with a picture of one of the leading figures of rhetoric from around the 5th century. Paste it along the picture of your map.
- Describe a time you used reason to talk someone into doing something you wanted them to do. List the steps you used.
- Describe a time someone used reason to talk you into doing something he/she wanted you to do. List the steps used.
- Describe a time you purchased something on impulse. Why do you think you did it?
- Explain your understanding of the concept: "You can never not communicate" (page 7). What exactly do the authors mean by this?
- Summarize the six rhetorical purposes in your own words and provide an example of each.
